Hi,

Speaking generally: We all know that the wiki proposal process has flaws; it is certainly not an allround tool to make binding changes to existing and long-standing rules. This would be especially clear in cases where rules have been approved by the OSMF board (e.g. the organised editing guidelines) but it also applies to rules that have been created with considerable DWG involvement like the automated edit and import rules.

The proponent has not been in touch with DWG for comments, nor have they, as far as I know, even discussed what kind of voting process, if any, would be applicable here. (At least two DWG members, myself included, have participated in the discussion though.)

I think that the proponent's choice of words ("it's official") is perhaps a bit unwise and/or premature; the only thing that is official is that a very small group of people think that discussing imports on the forum is a good idea.

Having said all that, as far as the DWG is concerned, we expect any import to go through a suitable review process. We certainly won't immediately fault somebody for continuing to use the imports list provided that a suitable review process can be achieved there. Nor would we fault somebody for doing their review process on the forum. Nor does going through a review process ensure that the import will not have to be reverted later! The main purpose of the review is to iron out obvious problems, and given enough eyeballs this can happen on either medium.

Bye
Frederik
