I'm sure Randy will be answering the 'can' part of your question very shortly, but I wanted to point out that in those 'hi' subject line spams, there is no whitespace at the end of the line. The actual 'Subject:' header always has whitespace after the ':', as in 'Subject: ', so TF's Subject line rule may not see any any whitespace in front of the 'hi' either, since the whitespace is technically part of the header tag, and not the subject text.
