Rich:
I'm not Klint, but here's a quick analysis of the line in question vs.
RFC-822:
Received: from unknown (HELO Dude) ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
by mail.frognet.net with SMTP; 27 Feb 2004 21:03:47 -0000
The syntax of each part of the received header is OK by RFC-822 (from, by,
with, ';').
Parens surround comments in RFC-822 syntax, so "(HELO Dude)" and
"([EMAIL PROTECTED])" are comments. Pretty much anything (other than a bare
CR) is allowed in a comment, so these are fine by the RFC. A mail processor
is supposed to ignore comments (that's what Trash Finder does, for example.)
Of course, just because it's legal doesn't mean that some broken mail client
can deal with them. Have you tried another mail clients to see if it is that
or some other problem?
Randy.
