I recently started using AVP and Sophos Antivirus to trap virus bearing emails. Following Eric's advice I changed the SCSMFilter threads from 40 Max/20 Min to 1/1.

I have been monitoring my server (Win 2k) using Task Manager and saw the following :

One instance of SCSM filter running with 2 threads which does not seem to change, even when you do the 'Blitz' test in AVP
One instance of Mfilter running with threads varying from 2 to 3
Up to 3 copies of AVP running with anything from 1 to 7 threads
Up to 3 copies of Sophos running with 1 or 2 threads.

Which of these is the Thread Configuration meant to control? SCSM filter and Mfilter both ignore the 1/1 setting.

Incidentally can any one explain the roles of SCSMfilter and Mfilter?

Secondly, does the order of plugins matter? My Bplugin has the AVP plugin listed first and the CheckMX plugin listed next. I have assumed that this will ensure that emails are first checked for viruses and those that pass this test (i.e. no viruses) will then have their MX record checked. Am I right?

David.
