This will be important to anyone working on SMTPRCV or other anti-spam tools for IMS. It's my hope to see an implementation of MARID for IMS.
The MTA Authorization Records In DNS (MARID) working group just released two drafts toward a proposed standard for verifying the sender addresses in e-mail. Those drafts are: http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-marid-core-00.txt http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-marid-submitter-00.txt The first draft is the MARID Core, which lets an after-the-fact mail filter sort through mail looking for forgeries, acting on information published by a sending domain. This draft is more useful for any mfilter plugin authors. The second draft pertains directly to SMTPRCV - the "Resent-From:" information described in the first draft is provided earlier in the SMTP conversation to supported receiving servers, allowing refusal based on forgery before having to receive the message. If you want to provide comments to the authors, join the MARID mailing list: http://www.imc.org/ietf-mxcomp/ -- PGP key (0x0AFA039E): <http://www.pan-am.ca/[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sometimes it's hard to tell where the game ends and where reality bites, er, begins. <http://vmyths.com/resource.cfm?id=50&page=1> This is the discussion list for the IMS Free email server software.
