This post made it to the list. In fact every post in the last few weeks
that's been followed by a "is anybody listening?" type post has made it to
my inbox.
I've been running IMS on NT4 for a very long time, it's is free and works
great but it's been unsupported for as long as I've been running it and it's
missing some features that are now considered basic.
So if I ever had to move from NT4 for some reason I'd look at MailSite or
some other solution altogether. IMS not working on 2003 wouldn't surprise
me and I wouldn't spend too much time fighting with it unless I had lots of
time, a desire to figure it out, the skill to figure it out and no budget
for a replacement. But it sounds like the time you've spent could have been
spent on getting sendmail or qmail running on FreeBSD box and you'd have a
supported solution and some new marketable skills. (i.e. "sendmail
administrator" would look much better on a resume than "I successfully
reverse engineered IMS in order to facilitate a migration to Windows 2003
saving my employer $600")
Are you sure that Majordomo doesn't support the equivalent of the "anyone
can post" and "administrator subscription approval" features of IMS???
I hope I don't sound all down and preachy. It's just that if IMS stopped
working for me I would not spend a lot of time fixing it. I recognize that
it's been running on borrowed time since the day I installed it.
