I migrated from W2K to W2K3 and didn't have any problems. There are still a
couple of things I'm trying to correct, but nothing that's keeping IMS from
running. 

What kind of problems are you having? I'm not great with W2K3 or IMS, but
maybe I can help since mine is running. 

By the way, I'd still like someone to help me out and explain what happens
when an email bounces. I understand this much:

1. It comes in through SMTPRcv, which checks it for a valid user name and
valid domain (not together, of course). 
2. SMTPRcv then puts it in Prein, where SCSMfilter takes it and runs it
through whatever plugins are set up, AVP, TrashFinder, etc. It also does
aliasing through plugin1. 
3. SCSMfilter then puts the email in Incoming and SMTPDS delivers it. 

Now what happens if it's a bad email address and it is returned as a
non-delivery to a local user?

am apparently still receiving posts! My IMS has been very rock solid, and I
would not mind keeping it. But the migration from Win2K to a new Win2003
server has proven a huge resource drain so far, and still not running. There
is also a upcoming issue with using SMTPRCV, which seems not to function on
the new server box, vs. the Win-supplied SMTP, which works for other
applications, but not with IMS. And the two seem to be in conflict. I had
some wonderful telephone support from Paul Sica to get it this far.

I have a Linux-based Majordomo that I can migrate my 20-odd lists to,
however a few use the "anyone can post" and "administrator subscription
approval" features of IMS. I'll need to reconcile these with my clients.

I assume that other IMSuser subscribers may have had similar problems. Some
may have tossed IMS for another low cost list server package. Others may
have gotten IMS to work under Win2003. I just need somebody who has "been
there, done that" to reply! And I note traffic on the IMSusers list is
practically nil.

I have other mail servers, (sendmail on cobalt servers, qmail), but my IMS
on NT4 is still on. I must admit that I more often on the list when I'm in
trouble than when it works fine (I agree it is not a very communitarian
attitude).

Looking for other products ? I think every responsible postmaster must do
it. IMS is not a religion.

However, I will keep IMS as long as possible because it is simple.

I think that experiments to change to / compare to other solutions can be
shared and discussed here, without a culprit feeling of 'abandon the ship'

Anyway I would like to thank the guys who have paid to time and efforts to
maintain and share the code
