That's funny that you bring this up, because I just started getting that
complaint, too. On two clients, it turned out to be an Outlook Express
setting - Tools / Options, Security Tab - checkbox for "Do not allow
attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.". When
they unchecked that box, they were able to receive attachments again.

I don't know if this is a new option, or if a security download updated the
checkbox.

Subject: Vanishing Attachments

I've been getting more and more calls from users complaining that their
OUTGOING attachments are vanishing.

I've had users send an attachment to a third party while CCing me at an
external e-mail account. I receive the attachment at the external account
so I know the attachment left the building but the third party claims to
have not received the attachment.

I continue to blame the third party for having some attachment removing
firewall in place but it has happened with so many different users and third
parties that I'm starting to doubt myself.

Is there any scenario that any of you can think of where one recipient not
getting an attachment while an external address CCed on the same e-mail does
get the attachment can be blamed on the sending SMTP server, sending
firewall or sending mail client?

Thanks,

Don DeCosta
