The "draconian" attachment security feature of Outlook Express can't be
blamed for my problem.

I have one situation where a third party is receiving attachments from one
of my users but not another. If the user sends the attachment to the third
party and CC's me at an external e-mail address then I get the attachment
but the third party doesn't. If I then forward my copy on to the third
party from my desk through the same IMS server and domain as the original
user then the third party gets the attachment from me.

So I know the original user attached properly because I got the attachment
when CC'd. I know the attachment left the building because I received it on
an external e-mail address. I know that IMS isn't stripping the attachment
because when I send it from my desk (on the same network, domain and IMS
server as the first user) to the third party they receive it and I know the
third party knows how to receive attachments and doesn't have Outlook
Express's security cranked too high because they received it from me.

I'm at a complete loss other than my original belief that it's not something
I can fix, it MUST be happening on the receiving end.

Thanks for giving it some thought.

Subject: Vanishing Attachments

I've been getting more and more calls from users complaining that their
OUTGOING attachments are vanishing.

I've had users send an attachment to a third party while CCing me at an
external e-mail account. I receive the attachment at the external account
so I know the attachment left the building but the third party claims to
have not received the attachment.

I continue to blame the third party for having some attachment removing
firewall in place but it has happened with so many different users and third
parties that I'm starting to doubt myself.

Is there any scenario that any of you can think of where one recipient not
getting an attachment while an external address CCed on the same e-mail does
get the attachment can be blamed on the sending SMTP server, sending
firewall or sending mail client?

Thanks,

Don DeCosta
