By now you know that ASHA-Corvallis is organizing its first public event of
the year - A PICNIC. It is on Friday, August 17th at Maple Grove Shelter,
Avery Park. Start time is 6pm and end time.......well that is up to you!
Here are the details of the picnic:
1) We are asking each family to bring a dish to share (EXCEPT RICE) for
about 15 people and a two-litre bottle of soft drink or juice. ASHA will
provide rice and nans :-)
2) Each student is asked to bring a bag of chips and a two litre bottle of
soft drink.
3) ASHA will provide plates, glass, spoons, napkins, etc.
4) Bring any outdoor games you might have. I will bring a badminton set
and cricket bat and a ball.
5) Since it is an ASHA event, we would like to keep the organizational
expenses as low as possible. Therefore, we are asking people to donate
money. There will be a donation box at the picnic and give whatever amount
you would like to give to cover the costs.
6) Directions to shelter - Take 15th street (going south towards avery park)
from Hwy 20/34 and then two right turns will take you to Maple Grove
Shelter.
7) Please send me (not to this whole list, please) an email at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (by 15th August) and tell me what dish you plan to
bring, how many people are coming with you, any questions you might have,
etc. Also, please feel free to call me at 758-6029 to give me the info or
if you have any qustions.
8) This is a public event and we would like to invite all those who are
intereted in promoting ASHA's mission. Therefore, please forward this email
to anyone you think may be interested in ASHA. Or send me their emails or
phone number and I will contact them.
9) Your support is needed to make this event successful. Please plan on
attending whole or part of the event on Friday, August 17th.

Asha Supporters:
I am glad to inform you that we (volunteers of Asha-Corvallis) are
planning
to organize a picnic (called Asha Picnic) to report the annual progress
of
Asha-Corvallis. Dr. Rakesh Gupta, Chair of the Picnic Committee, has
already
reserved the Maple Grove Picnic Shelter at Avery Park for Friday, the
August
17, 2001. Picnic will start at 6:00 P.M. and end by 10:00 P.M. The idea
is
to remember the Independence Day (August 15th) of India while doing
business
related to Asha!
Briefly, Asha-Corvallis chapter was established with the help of few
dedicated student volunteers at Oregon State University in 1996. The
chapter is now mostly comprised of professionals living in Corvallis and
the
surrounding areas. Asha, which means 'hope' in Indian language, is a
volunteer organization that operates mainly from the United States and
supports the basic education for underprivileged children in India.
We would like to summarize the progress made over the last fiscal year
and
show you how we spent your donations. We are hoping to make this picnic
a
connection between Indian professional community living in Corvallis and
Indian students at OSU, and between Corvallis and India! We encourage
you to
