This is false.  See:

OpenSolaris had this functionality as of build 43, but it was explicitly 
removed when the native GRUB boot support integrated because it was impractical 
for administration, install, upgrade, etc.

I think everyone would agree that booting from RAID-Z is a good thing, but 
claiming that we should take a step backwards towards maintaining consistency 
across disparate boot environments (initramfs, UFS, whatever) just because 
"Linux does it" doesn't seem like the right approach.
