Engineering to do b) and c) is underway. First target on the Install
front is on opensolaris.org as Dwarf Caiman, and we're staffing
for several additional pieces after that (ZFS-based live-upgrade
like functionality that we're terming Snap Upgrade, the "Distribution
Constructor" that's been mentioned out here before, a Live Media-based
Slim Install project, etc). Development on those will be open as
well.

Additionally, there's work underway to prototype a new package
system that should address the key issues out there. That too
will be developed in the open.

b) has been underway for 6 months, and c) for about 3.

Now, if we can address a) without religious wars, it'd be good.
