I've heard it said that those 12,000+ packages don't all work
properly. That really, only a few thousand are actually properly
functioning and that the Nexenta folks are working on the rest. So, it
would be great, yes, to leverage them, but let's not set ourselves up
with wild expectations :)

I'm more inclined to believe in the NetBSD packages.
