I said WM's, but should have said Desktops, yes. Thanks.

I think some sort of benevolent dictator / leader / whatever just has to come
down and say: "The default is going to be GNOME/KDE, pronto. If you
don't like it then piss off. If you want to use a different WM download it
from the repo or make a derevative CD." After all, that's most other
distributions work. It's like Ian said on his blog: sometimes leaders have
to take unpopular decisions.

What I would really like, is a BDFL that says
"this is not the moment to discuss about desktops", we don't even
have packages for any of them, let's focus on what we need _now_.

Anyway, if it would come down to a poll, I'm pretty sure GNOME would
win.

Well, polls might not be the better way to make such decision,
the problem is, is there anyone willing to mantain Indiana packages for desktop
X, Y or Z? There is no point in making a poll if none is going to maintain
those packages.

We need to stop this kind of pointless discussion and start focusing on
what we really need, a sane package managing system, an installer, conventions
for packaging, etc.

So whatever happens, let's just stop talking about WM's... We'll
see in the end which one is chosen. After all, the graphical part is the least
of our worries (both GNOME and KDE are known to work fine on OpenSolirs)... We
need to discuss about things like the installer, package management, etc...

So please, no more mails about wm's...
Please...

I would add, no more mails about desktops
(at this stage).

--
Un
