Hi, Sibdas ji,
Though a close up will certainly help, I feel it's *Bauhinia
variegata*based on lighter colour & broader petals alongwith deeper
purple mark on the
central petal. If you have close up pictures on any aspect, pl. attach it.
When & where was it taken?
*Bauhinia variegata* from Indiantreepix Database:
*Bauhinia variegata (Syn. B. candida)* *Fabaceae* *Kachnar,
Raktakanchan, Mountain Ebony, Buddhist/ Variegated Bauhinia, Poor-man's
Orchid tree, Koilar, Khwairal, Guiral, Barial, Kandan, Kural * Seen in
Feb.07 & now around 10/3/08 in Kolkata- J.M.Garg. noted about 6 trees in
bloom at different places, flowers of two trees had a lighter pinkish shade
than the purplish shade in Delhi- 14/3/08- Rita ji. Trees of Delhi-
Flowering may begin as early as end Jan. but prime time is generally in the
first half of March; flowering is over by mid April. Beautiful Trees &
Shrubs of Calcutta- flowering from late winter & continues throughout the
spring (Feb.- April). Bauhinia variegata - Wikipedia, the free
