Hello Satish ji,
I have learned so much from your write ups and detailed family postings with photographs when I joined the group early this year, that it is odd for me to write a contradictory note. However, I have to bring to your notice the reference I did for this tree. As per 'The Trees of Mumbai' by Almeida and Chaturved it is Artocarpus altilis = Artocarpus communis. The authors have listed where in Mumbai each tree is found and Sagar Upvan is one of the place mentioned in the write up of the tree. I quote pg 31: "... The large incised green leaves are ovate or rhomboid with leathery texture". The authors go on to state that there are two varieties of fruit, one with seeds and other completely seedless. It is the seedless variety which is consumed as a vegetable. regards, Rashida. Incisa suggests its lobed (Incised leaves) Dr Phadke Satish 2009/9/1 rashida atthar <[email protected]> This tree native of Pacific Islands was seen fruiting at Sagar Upvan (BPT gardens), Mumbai on 30 August '09. The roasted green fruit looks like bread and therefore also called Bread fruit tree. regards, Rashida. >From the hottest sporting action to the latest in news, style and >entertainment, it's all on MSN India -- http:// satishphadke.blogspot.com _________________________________________________________________ We all see it as it is.
