Respected Seniors and Dear friends,

With due respects,

The basic point is, to conserve a species, you need to identify it
first. Its ironic that, researchers get involved in research which are
often lab based with sophesticated aspects using hi-tech tools and
techniques, on the other hand the field botany and the field botanists
are getting on the verge of extinction. Personally I have seen people
working on aspects like tissue culture, medicinal aspects, molecular
aspects, as some of the premier institutes and universities in India,
with wrongly identified specimens and publishing articles in
international journals, only to fool others but infact they are
fooling themselves only!!

We feel great to know that, there is around 90% endemicity in Western
Ghats but it is ironic and shameful that we dont even have a proper
conservation status assigned to them following proper IUCN norms!!!
Red Data Book of India is not based on IUCN norms hence it is not
followed worldwide. It is ironic that still after 120 years of
Hooker's Flora of British India, we dont have a flora of our country
written by Indians though we have atleast one University in each and
every district of India. After over 40 years of Champion and Seth, we
still dont have an update on the forest types of our country.....AND
WE BOOST ABOUT THE BIODIVERSITY OF OUR COUNTRY!! Forget about plants,
can anyone tell me how many Frog species are there in India, or
Butterflies or Lizards??

JAGO INDIA JAGO!!!

These are my personal feelings and not meant for any of the
individuals of this community or outside.

Regards
