This is an example of User Driven Learning in practice

Scene 1: 1996. My wife (a computer specialist since 1972) finally
convinced me to forget about an electronic typewriter, and bought me a
newly launched Pentium 1 PC with 1.2 GB hard drive. When my files in
Microsoft word and Pagemaker were ready for delivery, I found some of
my files could not fit the 1.44 MB floppy drive, because they
contained several inserted images. I tried replacing these with
smaller size images, but to my dismay, the size of file kept on
increasing, instead of decreasing. My wife was no help, as she had
experience of FORTRAN and COBOL, but not Word or Pagemaker. My niece,
who was in final year of MCA was next choice. On hearing about Word
she just laughed at me, saying word is so easy, but when I told her my
problem her answer faded in woh...woh...woh........I asked several
people, but no use. Finally I found the solution, and was able to
deliver my manuscript to the publisher.

Scence 2: 2004. Centre for Professional Development in Human resource
and education of Delhi University organised an orientation course on
computers for College teachers, and requested me to teach them
essentials of Microsoft Word. That was fine till I found that my five
students were MCA and several with Physics background, knowing so much
about computers. Fearing that they would always be ready to pounce
upon me, I adopted the best option for me: told them frankly that I
have no formal training in Computers or Word, and have learnt every
thing through self learning and practice, which I am going to teach my
colleagues from other Colleges, so that they can know how to create
documents, format and insert objects. I also mentioned, that there are
some things about computers which no manual or classroom teaches. I
gave them my problem, and sought an answer, and to my relief no one in
a class of 70 had the answer. For rest of the session I had a very
smooth sailing.

Scene 3: 2009. I know this group has several experts in photography,
internet and computers. I would still like to know what percentage of
members have a simple solution to my problem. Kindly respond by
replying to me directly and not to the Group, to keep the inerest
alive. I will give my answer after waiting for 24 hours from now.
Kindly remember that images were inserted in the document and not
merely linked externally
