It depends on what you believe. In Jharkhand tribals have negative myths about Gloriosa superba and hence they cut all the plants growing near their houses. The underground part is a white prostrate rhizome which can be used for cultivation but these are supposed to be too poisonous for handling. Best regards Pankaj
