Poor Gurcharan Singh's poor Hindi (not to say of Marathi). Swagat ji I took kul for a tree/plant (Kashmiri name). I must tell you an incident. During a period when I was incharge of Graduate admissions, the conveners of various departments would send me their recommendation. My one Hindi convener would always write in Hindi. I would always ask her (jokingly) whether she has recommended or rejected the admission. And now on a serious note. Kul is alright. The common names of family are generally based on type genus or its common name or common name of some representative. Acanthaceae family is commonly known as Acanthus family or Black-eyed Susan (common name of Thunbergia alata) family. Adulasa I hope refers to Adhatoda vasica (Adulsa in Useful Plants of India). How come you chose this for the family? Gurcharan ji, 'कुल' 'Kul" is the perfect word for Family in Marathi. You can use it in Hindi also... as they used in mythology like... "RaghuKul riti sada nibhaye, pran jaye per bachan na jaye'" "रघुकुल रिती सदा निभाए, प्राण जाये पर बचन ना जाये" Regards, ~Swagat 9223217568 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2009/10/17, Gurcharan Singh <[email protected]>: More correctly an appropriate Marathi word for family.
