The importance of dead and decaying trees and the need to leave them alone (not cut and remove them) is seldom understood by most people - especially in a woodland area. Lots of birds (parakeets, owls, magpie robins, barbets, woodpeckers, to name just a few) have nesting holes in them. Also, the insects (beetles, grubs, termites) lurking in the decaying wood attract lots of insectivorous birds.
Does anyone have anything else to contribute on this issue?
