This plant is Synadenium grantii Hook.f. S. umbellatum Pax is usually treated as one of its synonym. However some recent authors treat this genus as synonym of Euphorbia and then the correct name should be *Euphorbia pubescens* (Pax) Bruyns This African species was introduced into India and is now found as fence in many areas, particularly in S.India, It is often found naturalised in some areas. Please refer to EGGLI, U. 2002.* Illustrated Handbook of Succulent Plants: Dicotyledons*. Susan Carter of Kew has done the genera Euphorbia and Synadenium.
