Flowers in branched clusters, spikes or heads.Bracts papery. Sepals 5 fused into tube and often papery, ribbed and coloured. Petals 5 fused into short or long tube. Stamens 5. Pistil with 5 styles. The glands are a key feature that allows members of the family to live in salty soils where most other species of plants cannot. The chalk-glands excrete calcareous salts dissolved in the water of the plant's tissues. This excretion moves the salts out of the plant where they may crystallize or be washed away. Latin word "Plumbum" means lead. :: Lead plants *BSI Mah. Flora mentions only 2 native species* *Dyerophytum indicum *
*Plumbago zeylanica* Flowers of the Himalaya mentions only 2 sp. *Acantholimon lycopodioides* *Ceratostigma ulicinum* Dr Satish Phadke -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "efloraofindia" group.
