Hello Mr.Thiruvengadam

I want to share an interesting account about the observation posted by you.
A similar observation has been recorded by Writer Late Venkatesh Madgulkar in
his marathi book 'Nagzira' in a chapter regarding Hanuman Langurs.
Shri Venkatesh Madgulkar was stationed in Nagzira for a month(somewhere around
1979) and the book is based on his experiences.

He mentions that Hanuman Langoors eat & lick the barks of Anjan - Memecylon
umbellatum. The tree in the image posted by you doesn't seem to be Anjan from
the trunk profile. Nevertheless it appears to be habitual of langoors to eat
and lick the sap from the tree barks. Thanks for sharing.

It would be indeed interesting to have similar postings on plant and
mammals/birds/insects/butterfly interactions.

best regards

Adittya Dharap

Friends
When I was at Nagzira National Park on 28th Dec., 2009.I observed
monkeys are feeding on bark of a tree. I saw the same at three
different places in that forest.
This is new to me, and interested to know, eating the bark because of
non-availably of other food or what is the scientific reason?.
With Warm Regards,
