I sent this to a friend who is an expert in tropical conifers at Montgomery
Botanic Center in Miami, FL USA. Here is his response:

Hi Ken,

I
think it is very likely a Callitris (native to Australia and New
Caledonia), if it is a conifer. There is an outside chance it could be a
Gymnostoma. A closeup of a branchlet would narrow that
down.

Best wishes,
Chad

ID

Hey Chad--

Any ideas? In India, but not positive it wasn't an
introduced tree. Doesn't look like any Cupressus I'm familiar with.

 Hope
things are going well there. The cold spell probably helped the conifers some,
I'd guess.

Regards--
Ken Greby.

A medium
sized tree at Gokhale Institute, Pune. The needles are about 8 cm long and are
clustered at the ends of branches. No cones seen. Can someone suggest a field
guide or links for ID of Indian Conifers and Cycads?
