This is Spanish broom, Spartium junceum,  native to the Mediterranean.

Nilgiris. Possibly an introduction.

Location- Place, Altitude, GPS-  Ooty town; Nilgiris; 1200 msl 
Habitat- Garden/ Urban/ Wild/ Typ garden and roadside 
Plant Habit- shrub with angled stem 
Height/Length-  ca.1.5m 
Leaves Type/ Shape/ Size-  2 x 0.3cm 
Inflorescence Type/ Size-  raceme 
Flowers Size/ Colour/ Calyx/ Bracts-  yellow; 1 cm across 
Fruits Type/ Shape/ Size Seeds-  pods 
Other Information like Fragrance, Pollinator, Uses etc.-  No fragrance
