Thank you very very much, Vijayasankar ji, for help.
Among the two options, I will take *நீர் கூவை* Neer koovai ... it is closer
to Kannada and Tulu names.
Yes, I had seen the Malabari name *Maravara tsjembu* in FRLHT-ENVIS ... I
knew it was placed wrongly for Tamil.
Regards.

Dear Dinesh ji,

The name அருருட்டு is just a (modified) transliteration of the English
name Arrowroot and not a proper Tamil name.
I think *நீர் கூவை* Neer koovai or *நீர் கூகை* Neer koogai would be more
appropriate for *Lagenandra ovata*. Koovai or Koogai are Tamil names
for *Maranta
arundinacea*, a similar-looking plant.

Note: I noticed that in some databases (FoI, FRLHT-ENVIS), the name *Maravara
tsjembu* is erroneously listed as a Tamil name for *Lagenandra ovata*. This
is a "Latin" name (now a synonym) originally applied to *Remusatia vivipara*
in Hortus Malabaricus
