Promila ji
The Magnolia grandiflora grown in Kashmir I think has largest flowers I have
ever seen. The bud may be as long as 15 cm and fully opened flower may
measure 20-25 cm in diam. These are at least one and a half times as large
as flowers I have seen in California. In our childhood days we would pluck a
bud and keep it in a vase (or simple a tumbler) of water. It would slowly
open and may last up to 10 days or so, spreading fragrance all the time.
The poor tree hardly flowers in Delhi, and if it ever does fully opened
flower may scarcely be 10 cm in diam.
