Thanks Dr. Giby. Don't think that the colours on the underwings can be appreciated much in these photographs. The main difference is the female are larger and have more rounded forewings which is also not clearly seen in these photographs. With regards, Neil Soares.

Yes one major distinguishing feature is in the fore-wing; in males the upper wing is suffused with blue, which is not clear from the pictures. But field experience with some butterfly people helped in distinguishing the male and female in the pictures. It is also a male Indian Common Silverline butterfly (Spindasis vulcanus vulcanus of family Lycaenidae). Color variation may be due to place difference.
