Thanks Dr. Giby. Don't think that the colours on the underwings can be 
appreciated much in these photographs. The main difference is the female are 
larger and have more rounded forewings which is also not clearly seen in these 
photographs.

Female is larger and yellowish/cream surface color (under) with pale (mostly 
orange) bands when compare with males which has white surface color with darker 
bands.


Yes one major distinguishing feature is in the fore-wing; in males the upper 
wing is suffused with blue, which is not clear from the pictures. But field 
experience with some butterfly people helped in distinguishing the male and 
female in the pictures.

Extremely sorry, I missed Mani Ji's beutiful picture. 


It is also a male Indian Common Silverline butterfly (Spindasis vulcanus 
vulcanus of family Lycaenidae). 


Color variation may be due to place difference.
