Dear Mr. Garg... I agree with the three members who have written to you... this practice of massive collection by tribals have to be stopped. and unscrupulous middle man like this man are a menace to our collective heritage...
BUT I THINK you should also know the following facts: CHAULIA word used by tribals in Bengal is really Ruella tuberosa.. a medicinal plant ... not mentioned by Charak or Shushruta ...its an invasive weed of alien origin... its the blue wild petunia that we all see around unkempt grounds in kolkata and all over the gangetic plains now a days... tubers powder used mainly by the Lodha tribes to cause abortion in women and treating gonorrhoea in men... how is that possible ...I donot know... other tribes use it for dysentery and some for pnuemonia.... I thought of what if we report this man to some environmental protection agency? but then seeing that is a weed that he has collected what would the agency do to him and his tribals?
