  Fair enough, but the leaf-margin as a differentiating characteristic is not 
mentioned in any of the standard reference books. [In fact, for example in Olea 
dioica, while most have leaves with serrate margins there are some which have 
leaves with entire margins].

Hi Neil,

yes, and the other difference according to some sources is the leaf margins. C. 
graveolens is described as having crenate leaf margins, whereas C. ovata 
according to some sources has entire leaves. The pics posted here show crenate 
leaves. See also the Biotik website which shows C. ovata (esculenta) with 
closeups of the leaves. They are quite different.
