Sir,

My colleague. Ms Arpita Ram recorded these photogrpahs yesterday, near
Konnagarh (Hooghly), roadside. Is this Crataeva religiosa Forst., and the
Bengali name given to it BARUN ?

Crateva = Crataeva !!!

"This species was in 1786 with the notation Crataeva by Johann Georg Adam
Forster in Dissertatio ... De Plantis Esculentis Insularum Oceani Australis ,
pp. 45-46 and in the same year . Fl Ins.Austr , page 35 published with a brief
description. The spelling Crateva religiosa is valid."

Crateva religiosa Forst.? or Crateva religiosa Forst. f.? or Crateva religiosa
G.Forst.?

Wikipedia says = "The flowering tree Crateva religiosa (syn Crataeva
religiosa, Crateva adansonii) is called the sacred garlic pear and temple
plant........" and the Latin name given to it is Crateva religiosa Forst. f.

(According to a text book, "Plant Groups", by H. Mukherji) Crataeva religiosa
Forst. = C. nurvala Buch. -Ham. = BARUN (Bengali)
The Plant List = Crateva religiosa G.Forst.
GRIN = Crateva religiosa G. Forst.
while wikipedia mentions C. religiosa = C. adansonii, Flora of Pakistan doesn't
mention C.
religiosa = http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=5&taxon_id=250063253
to know what The plant list says about C. adansonii, please click the link

Flora of China does feature C.
religiosa - http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=200009175
another description of C.
religiosa - http://apps.kew.org/efloras/namedetail.do?flora=fz&taxon=471&nameid=1354
Please see the synonyms of Crateva nurvala Buch. -Ham at The Plant List

religiosa Forst. - http://www.icmr.nic.in/pinstitute/belgaum/Museum/Museum%20Herbarium%20Text1%20Updated/Dry%20Drug.pdf

So, the species in this post =

C. religiosa Forst ?
C. religiosa Forst. f. ?
C. religiosa G. Forst ?
C. nurvala Buch. -Ham. ?
Thank you & Regards,
