Alright figured out a little more on the issue. I was misreading the json
that was coming back from the curl command:

Here is the console interaction that made me realize what was going on:

> show users
user admin

> set password for admin = 'newpass'
ERR: user not found
> SET PASSWORD FOR admin = 'influxdb4ever'
ERR: user not found
> CREATE USER paul WITH PASSWORD 'timeseries4days' WITH ALL PRIVILEGES

> show users
user admin
paul true

>

So there was no user named "admin." That was Influx telling me what format
was going to be used on the user list.

What that doesn't answer is how my company's system works at all when there
seems to be no users active on Influx. The client I am working on connects
to the influx client as "admin."

Any ideas?
