I don't quite understand your later questions. From your initial email I
understood that you have a continuous query set up and it works against
points with timestamps close to now(), as expected. Continuous queries will
never go farther back in time than the RESAMPLE FOR clause. It is the
timestamp of the point, not the time it was written, that matters.

The INTO queries operate against an arbitrary time range. They can be run
at any time, and will produce the same end result as a continuous query.

If you need to constantly insert data with timestamps in the past and you
want to automatically downsample it, you can script the CLI standalone
query function
<https://docs.influxdata.com/influxdb/v0.13/tools/shell/#execute-an-influxql-command-and-quit-with-execute>
with an INTO query covering the appropriate historical range. You can also
set up Kapacitor
<https://docs.influxdata.com/kapacitor/v0.13/introduction/getting_started/>
in batch mode to periodically query the historical range and write the
downsampled results back to InfluxDB.
