Sounds like a race condition. Deletes aren't instantaneous. The system makes tombstone records first and those are processed at the next compaction. Can you wait overnight before trying to re-write the data to a dropped measurement?
Also, I'd recommend using DROP MEASUREMENT myseries. That's the same effective command as DROP SERIES FROM myseries, but it doesn't have to do any index lookups.
