I've been trying to get Transarc to do an incredibly simple thing, which seems
to be too complicated for them. I asked them to place a tar file of the
stuff in the product tree along with the expanded version. This seems too
hard for them to do. This is my response to them, which a co-worker suggested
I cc to this list.

I see. It will take them too long to figure out how to do it and then type
the commands. Here, let me help them. Now they can cut and paste:
cd /afs/transarc.com/product/afs/3.4a.patches
foreach i (hp700_ux90 ncrx86_30 rs_aix32 sun4c_411 sun4c_53 sun4c_54 sun4m_412
sun4m_53 sun4m_54)
tar cpf $i.tar $i
gzip $i.tar
end
cd ../3.4a.ports
foreach i (alpha_osf32c hp700_ux100 hp800_ux100 rs_aix41 sgi_53 sgi_61 sun4x_55)
tar cpf $i.tar $i
gzip $i.tar
end
Yes, this is anal, but I think you can see the point I'm trying to make here
is it takes NO TIME for someone there to give this command. Yet it's going
to save the rest of us incredible amounts of time. Do you have any idea
how long it takes to download all of those things? I have to normally pick
up about 10 of them. That takes quite a few hours to do. It would take
MUCH less time if I was copying compressed tarfiles.
