OK, so what happens when I do opendir/readdir on /afs? I've seen
plenty of file dialogs which don't let you type in a filename, which
means you lose if you try to open a file in a new cell. Running some
special utility would work, but is a gross hack not appropriate for
all users.
You also haven't dealt with access control. Some sites have private
cells they won't want to advertise. And some other sites might not
want to make all cells available to their users. Having a fixed
list of mountpoints in root.afs makes this sort of thing easier.
