Hi all,
we are trying to set-up our campus mail delivery subsystem to
deliver messages via central mail hub(s) into global user's mail spool area
located in AFS space.

Let me briefly describe our (future) configuration:

We choose to run authenticated 'master' sendmail daemon (on mail-hubs) via
small wrapper (something like reauth - modified for MIT Kerberos
authentication) so have access to spool area
/var/spool/mail/<first_letter>/<username>/<username> which is linked to AFS
space. Sendmail daemons on other machines send all mail to mail-hubs.

It seems to work fine for delivering mail into system default mailbox, but
there is 'small' problem. Till now, we supported user customizable mail->folder
filtering via procmail. This functionality is extremely useful for many
users which receive ~100 messages/day from lots of mail lists.

In planed configuration is unacceptable to run procmail (or any other
'uncontrolled' program via pipes in user's .forward because of sharing
PAG/tokens with sendmail :-( However we would like (or must) continue to
support any kind of messages filtering.

The only one (simple and easy to run) solution I can see now is to
restrict .forward pipes via smrsh and move 'procmail filtering' somewhere
between [user-login] ... [reading mail]. This of course make inconsistent
view (from users side) of inbox folder when reading mail 'locally' (via
pine) or 'remotely' (via POP).

So I'm looking for any other (suppose better) solution.

ANY help or suggestion are welcome!!

Thank you *VERY* much in advance for any help!

Best regards,
        Lubos
