Hmm, after looking at the model used by project vincent (john hascall et
al), we have come to the conclusion that moving to a network-centric view
of mail is the best solution we can currently implement. This gives us
the following benefits

1) mailhubs are disassociated from user home directories, enabling us to
move them to/from AFS space or a NetApp like appliance without causing
mail disruption.

2) people using pegasus/eudora mail (non unix clients) can access mail
without going through the login process.

The only access to mail will be via the network, using pop3/IMAP
(authenticated to kerberos/AFS/DCE et al).

The downside is a lot of extra disk space and dedication of machine(s)
exclusively for mail but we feel that the simplicity and benefits outweigh
the minor cost of buying a dedicated Challenge S for mail.

If your site has implemented this and feel there are some caveats, please
post.
