A couple of people here have successfully used afs3.4 4.39 on AIX 4.2. It
only works if you run with a memcache. The one person running it has had a
problem with xlock. Once in a while when he types in his password to unlock
the screen his X session will die and he'll be presented with the login
prompt. He didn't notice this happening before installing AFS on it.
He also says it seems a little sluggish loading files from afs like
netscape which is several MB's in size and it didn't seem much faster to
load the next time he ran it.
