If I'm understanding correctly what several people have pointed out, standard Kerberos allows periods in user names. I believe that the restrictions mentioned on the `pts createuser' page date from a time when many fewer AFS admins used standard Kerberos instead of the AFS Authentication Server. So it is probably less the case that I need to copy the information from the `pts createuser' page to other pages, than that I need to figure out what the restrictions (if any) currently are.
