Thanks to everyone who replied with suggestions, as to why Solaris was
much slower than SunOS. Several people suggested that the 32M servers
I was testing against were probably causing memory starvation under
Solaris. I have since done some testing on 96M machine (admittedly, I
used machiens with faster CPUs too, so I haven't performed a good
scientific experiment.) Solaris was still slower in one of the tests,
but by a much lower percentage, and I have reason to believe that If
I'd tested with more than 2 client amchines at once, solaris would
have done better (the 2 client case actually yielded almost identical
results for SunOS and Soalris servers))
