My group manages the AFS installation at FERMI. I have asked on several
occasions about the new licensing structure and how it works with our
old license which is a site license for several platforms. No one has
been able to get me a sufficient answer. I had heard at one point that
the issue for those with old contracts would be discussed in more detail
when contract renewal time came up. Ours is up for renewal and we
received a quote for it but no one contacted us about this issue.

If you read the new license agreement carefully you will see that
transarc refers to licensing a "registered entity" and then gives
a completely unintelligible definition. When i pressed for a clarification,
I was told on more than one occasion that a registered entitiy is
a "user" that accesses AFS. In fact I was told that this could be
determined by finding out how many entries one has in their KAS database. I
pointed out many of the flaws with this method and never received a
good reply.

So - in short FERMI is in the same boat and it would be truly
appreciated (Transarc are you listening???) if this issue was
clarified and resolved.
