Someone at IBM AWD reported a similar problem in DFS (AFS 4), which was
eventually traced to the fact that AIX unmounts the disks before trying
to shutdown the AFSD daemons. One of those daemons periodically tries
to update your CacheItems file, and once the cache disk is unmounted,
the next time that this daemon runs, the kernel will panic when it tries
to update a file on the unmounted disk.

This is probably an AFS 3 bug, too. The proper fix is to idle these
processes when an unmount occurs.
