Backing up AFS volumes

We need to set up a backup scheme for our AFS volumes.  Are there any good
alternatives to using the AFS backup routines within a Sun environment?
Is it possible to use Sun OS dump/restore to backup the AFS volumes? 
 
Suggestions from other AFS sites would be appreciated.
