I forget exactly how this thread started, but ---- I believe the story was that we were talking about Suns running Solaris 1. You probably want to look at Sun's Online Disk Suite product. It provides disk concatenation, shadowing, and mirroring. You can create whopping big file systems with it. It also provides large versions of lseek, etc so that you can use big files and lseek within your big raw partitions. I'm not sure it will meet all your needs, but we regularly use it to provide large file systems to our users.
