Howdy, When logging into an AIX machine, if you give an incorrect password for
the first password: prompt, when you finnaly get into the system, the hostname
field in wtmp (and in utmp) is badly munged with spurious garbage. Has anyone
else witnessed this? Is there a fix available for it? As for FTP, as soon as
you log in, no readable messages come out of the FTP system (initial connection
messages that is) instead it too spews garbage out. The login problem is
fairly serious as it makes parsing the last logs very difficult, and loses much
valuable security information..
