I have installed the AFS client software on an HP 735 that
is running HPUX 9.01. I am running an AFS inetd in
parallel with the original inetd. The AFS inetd.con looks
like:

rehpsys$ cat /etc/inetd.conf.afs
#
# Internet server configuration database
#
ta-rauth stream tcp nowait root internal ta-rauth
shell stream tcp nowait root /etc/remshd remshd
login stream tcp nowait root /etc/rlogind rlogind

When I rlogin to the HP from an RS/6000 AFS user session it
works just fine. However, if I rlogin to the HP from an
RS/6000 -- but the session on the 6000 is a straight UNIX
login -- then I get the following errors:

rers02$ rlogin rehpsys
Unable to read password because can't read password from terminal
Login incorrect
login:

Can anyone shed some light on this problem? I have a feeling
that I have forgotten something rather basic in my inetd
configuration, but I can't figure out what it is.

Thanks,
Hope Goering
