HP700 + SDS + AFS?

I have recently tried to partition a disk on an HP 9000/700 running
HP-UX 9.01 and AFS 3.2b.  I wanted to have part of the disk out of
AFS for an Oracle data base, and part of the disk in AFS.  The
partition and mounting seems to have gone well, but 'vos create'
or 'vos move' to the new partition seems always to fail.

Is software disk striping incompatible with AFS /vice partitions?
