I've run the translator on Sun 4.1.3 without problems.

Are you bringing you afsd and nfsd in the correct order?  (AFS should be
running first).    When I wasn't doing this, the Sun would go into a panic
when I attempted a mount of /afs.

Otherwise, I don't have any idea about what is causing this.
